The seventh state Sishu-Kishore Utsab was inaugurated this afternoon at Tuntuni Mancha, adjacent to Vivekananda Community Hall ground in Kushmandi block of South Dinajpur district. Organised by West Bengal government’s information and cultural department, the utsab will continue till 12 January.
PWD Minister Mr Sankar Chakraborty inaugurated the utsab in the presence of South Dinajpur district Trinamul Congress president and member of the state Assembly secretariat Biplab Mitra. Balurghat MP and popular drama personality Arpita Ghosh, eminent theatre director Debesh Chatterjee, DM, Tapas Chowdhury, SP S Jhajharia and other dignitaries and eminent guests related with cultural background were present on the occassion.
Formally declaring the commencement of the festival, Mr Chakraborty said any festival symbolizes the universal symbol of joy and merry-making. In his brief speech Mr Chakraborty claimed that even in this age of Internet and other related technologies the significance of any festival could not be substituted. He described festivals as inseparable parts of human civilization.
